Vance Joy Gets Wistful About Late Night Flights on ‘Red Eye’

Vance Joy, the Melbourne-based singer-songwriter also known as James Keogh, celebrated the release of his debut album Dream Your Life Away on Atlantic earlier this week. The 13-track full-length features a number of folk-pop standouts, including “Red Eye,” a song about a tenuous romantic relationship. “You put two lovers in a song, separate them, and you’ve got three minutes to reunite them,” Joy said of the song. “I suppose it’s a story that has been told and re-told in different forms. It’s reliable.” Watch this unguarded performance of “Red Eye” by Joy alongside his bandmates at Australia’s famous Sing Sing Recording Studios. His quavering vocals throughout the acoustic performance pack a pretty emotional wallop, especially on lines like “you know that you’re looking well, won’t you come through my door?” There are also two months left of the recent Outside Lands performer’s “Dream Your Life Away” world tour, during which you can catch Joy at clubs smaller than he’ll probably ever be playing again.
