Valiant indeed! In a selfless move made public to draw attention to the National Kidney Foundation, Valient Himself, frontman of Chapel Hill, NC rockers Valient Thorr, will go under the knife April 29 to have to a kidney removed and transplanted into his sick father. All of the band's shows have been canceled through June 10, at which point they will hit the road in support of Immortalizer, their latest album out June 17 via Volcom.

Valient Himself, also the author of an amusing SPIN.com tour blog, hopes his noble move will motivate others to do the same. "If I can go from a hospital bed to playing in front of a crowd of 75,000 at the UK's Download Festival in just eight weeks, people out there might consider becoming organ donors as well," the Viking-like frontman said. "If they have family members who need a kidney, it's definitely something to think about; and if not, they can still learn about designating themselves as organ donors on their driver's license."

Catherine Paykin, Transplant Services Program Director for the National Kidney Foundation, added: "We are delighted that Valient Himself has decided to take his donation story public. We hope that it serves to shed light on the lifesaving power of organ donation and encourages others to get involved. We wish him and his father a speedy recovery."

ssistance with finding a kidney donor

Dear Sir/Madam,

Ref: Assistance with finding a kidney donor
I am husband of an extremely ill, young lady who suffers from chronic Kidney failure. This is directly related to a lack of adequate medical facilities and continuous war in Afghanistan, where she initially developed the illness.
My wife Mrs. Morad was born in May 1986 in the Kunduz province of Afghanistan to a farmer family. Her father had a piece of land, where he was cultivating wheat and vegetables. By selling the crops they could manage their life and income. Mrs. Morad had developed reflux nephropathy in childhood, when she was 3 years old and no one was aware of it. Furthermore, she was subjected to mistreatment both verbal and physical and was tortured by all her family members. Consequently, she was not able to control her bladder functions. She was referred to doctors for treatment and on one occasion she went to Pakistan with her father for treatment. She also had a bladder operation in 1990 in Kabul without success. When the Mujaheddin took power in Afghanistan in 1992 her mother died and her father and lost both of his legs to a landmine. Mrs. Morad and two of her brothers were rescued by their kind uncle and sent to Germany. Mrs. Morad and her two brothers went to school and Mrs. Morad was looked after by the renal team in Hamburg hospital. Mrs. Morad had another operation to stop the reflux, but it was not successful either. The treatment that she received made her drowsy and one day when she was coming out of the hospital she was hit by a car, moving at 40mph and was thrown 7 meters away and fell unconscious. After few days, she came out of the coma and found herself in the hospital with her arms, legs and head all wrapped in bandages. She recovered from the accident but it has permanently affected her balancing.
We married in 2007 and she moved to London and is living with me and she is now under the care of Saint Mary's Hospital- Renal Clinic Dr. Duncan team and Urology team Dr. Vale. The Urology team told us that her condition is unique and they have not encountered anything like that before.
She has developed a chest pain few days ago and the pain got worse and I took her to the hospital. She is now diagnosed with inflammation of her heart (Pericarditis) and is in agony in Saint Marry Hospital. She is wearing a Suprapubic Catheter (also known as a vesicostomy) for two years now and has had constant Urinary Track Infections for which she is hospitalized monthly and her infection is treated by Interveinal antibiotics.
The poor young lady has escaped the Taliban oppressing regime and war in a hope of better life but her medical condition has given her the feeling of emptiness and no hope for future.
The Dr. Duncan Renal spe****t team at Saint Mary and Hammersmith Hospital pointed out that the only way that she would get better is to have a kidney transplant and we are looking for an angel. Any help will be greatly appreciated while she is still alive in order to save her life.
My blood -group type differs from her and due to my medical conations I can not donate to her.
Her blood group is 0(zero) or O in some countries.
We need any sort of help and advice from professionals, donors and facilitators.
Please do kindly contact me if you can help in any form or if you have any questions or suggestions.
