Bono Apologizes for Dropping ‘Songs of Innocence’ on Everybody

It takes a big person to say they’re sorry, so it’s nice to hear that the lead singer of “the biggest band in the world” knows when to apologize. During a Facebook Q&A session, Bono was naturally asked about Songs of Innocence’s unprecedented release. Specifically, “can you please never release an album on iTunes that automatically downloads to peoples [sic] playlists ever again? It’s really rude.” To his credit, Bono gave the snippy question a legitimate, and, dare we say it, somewhat humble answer:

Oops. I’m sorry about that. I had this beautiful idea and we got carried away with ourselves. Artists are prone to that kind of thing. Drop of megalomania, touch of generosity, dash of self-promotion, and deep fear that these songs that we poured our life into over the last few years mightn’t be heard. There’s a lot of noise out there. I guess we got a little noisy ourselves to get through it.

Well, we said “somewhat” humble. If you deleted the album and have been moved to give it a second chance, it’s on sale now. The band also released a colorful new video for “The Miracle (Of Joey Ramone),” the record’s energetic opener, which is above.
