Ever-unpredictable Odd Future honcho Tyler, the Creator made a surprise appearance on Fox’s The Mindy Project last night, playing a bizarro version himself that’s all about spreading positive messages. In the episode, Mindy Kaling’s in-show brother, played by Pitch Perfect‘s Utkarsh Ambudkar, decides to leave Stanford in order to pursue a rap career. After he attempts to convince Mindy to sing his hook at a showcase, the camera cuts to the opening act: a gruff-voiced MC in a green hoodie — Tyler, of course — who urges the crowd, “Always recycle, okay? Plastic and paper. We need to save our environment. See you guys later.” It’s short, but sweet, kinda like OF member and Loiter Squad co-star Taco. Is it just coincidence, then, that just before the show aired to West Coast audiences, Kaling tweeted:
West coasties! Five minutes until #TheMindyProject. Get off your surfboards, grab a taco, and sit down in front of your tv you don’t own!
