Corpses, zombies, and packs of werewolves ravaged the bar last night at Fontana's in New York City in a celebration at a CMJ Halloween party hosted by Spin, the Musebox, and Sparks. Amidst the cavorting and blood sucking on the dance floor, party-goers also ventured into the depths of the venue to enjoy the six-band lineup. Highlights of the evening's performances included the perseverance of opening band the Primms, who were forced to play in the dark despite continued power outages. Decked out as their favorite superheroes, Brooklyn's own Locksley rewarded the cleverly-costumed by handing out free CDs and playing fan-favorites like "Why Not Me." But it was Montreal's electro art-punk band We Are Wolves who stole the show when the three-piece came out with giant black skeletons strapped to their backs and entranced audience members with their mixing of French chanting and spastic, cryptic rhythms. We Are Wolves frontman Alex Ortiz later chatted en francais avec SPIN.com. "Salut, L'Halloween c'est mortel!," he exclaimed.

Risque rocker Har Mar Superstar capped off the night's performances after a set by Sydney's the Mess Hall, with a self-described "half-assed performance," not only by forgetting his own lyrics, but also revealing some crack in the process. While Har Mar was left kissing girls in the front row, upstairs ghouls and girls danced under a movie screen of Tales from the Crypt montages, turning the rest of Halloween into night of the living drunk.
