After triumphing at this year's Oscars with his score for The Social Network, Trent Reznor is back in the studio -- and he's turning his attention to writing new Nine Inch Nails material.

Reznor popped up on the NIN fan forum to deliver the news: "Nine Inch Nails is not dead and I plan to focus on that next," he wrote, without adding any specifics about when new music would be released.

Reznor also updated fans on his plans for the rest of the year, which include writing the score for David Fincher's Girl With the Dragon Tattoo movie (due out this Christmas) and putting the finishing touches on his next release with his band How to Destroy Angels, which features his wife Mariqueen Maandig. (Reznor said in recent interviews that the next HTDA record would be out this summer; he's since clarified by saying the album is not quite done and will likely be out this fall.)

"The three columns of things I'm currently funneling music into -- HDTA, NIN, and film work -- I believe will start to make sense to you (and me) as everything unfolds," he wrote. "By having a few different outlets for my work, I'm finding more inspiration within each one."

Reznor has had to keep quashing rumors that he is finished with Nine Inch Nails, who performed their final live shows in 2009. Last May, Reznor posted on the How To Destroy Angels Facebook page that NIN was still very much alive, adding that new material would be "quite different than previous NIN."

Reznor also acknowledged that he would have a role in the upcoming Tim Burton co-production Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, but denied reports he was starring in the film. (A rep for the studio that's producing the movie only confirmed that he was in talks to play a character named Jack Barts.)

"I was considering [a cameo] when I awoke a few days ago to the news that I am not STARRING in ALVH (which is obviously not true)," he wrote. "Fuck. [The director and I] apparently forgot that the internet existed AND THERE ARE NO SURPRISES anymore. So... do me a favor and act surprised, OK?"
