Earlier this summer, Ricky Gervais resurrected his Office character David Brent for a series of web videos in which he gives guitar lessons, takes questions from fans, and performs a few songs. Apparently Toro y Moi's Chaz Bundick, who needs no music lessons, is a fan, as he went ahead and covered Brent's ode to his favorite town, "Slough," without any trace of irony. Bundick hasn't given any reason for tackling the song, aside from writing "dear ricky, hope you like this cover. peace, chaz," on Soundcloud and tweeting at Gervais. The actor gave it a listen and posted a link to it, calling the cover "amazing." And it is — sure, you'll laugh when you hear Bundick singing about how the "station has got a new floor, and the motorway runs by your door," but musically, it's actually quite lovely. Give it a listen below — we guarantee it's the best cover of a song by a fictional character you'll hear today.
