'Today' Is the Day for Ben Kweller
When you pick up a copy of Spin's July issue on newsstands, a special surprise awaits: A free CD with ten covers of Smashing Pumpkins classics, presented by MySpace and Spin. Track five, "Today," comes to us from singer/songwriter Ben Kweller. "['Today'] reminds me of my youth -- interacting with girls for the first time, getting high, or whatever my big moments were as a kid," says cherubic indie piano man Kweller. "Smashing Pumpkins were one of those bands that were the soundtrack to my life, probably the same way the Beatles were to my dad."
We also just hung out with Ben this week, and he taped an awesome version of "Today" for us along the Brooklyn waterfront, then talked Pumpkins and tons more as he drove us around in his Volvo, nicknamed Annabel. Check back to SPIN.com next week for this awesome footage!
