Tim Vocals Celebrates Prison Release With ‘We Thuggin’ Video

Tim Vocals, free, prison, release, 'We Thuggin,' Nino Man, R&B goon singer

Tim Vocals is out of prison and back to singing about guns and drugs over well-liked R&B songs in his feathery vibrato. The self-described “goon singer” had been serving time since early last year over a reported parole violation. Harlem-based Vocals was one of SPIN’s Best R&B of 2013, and now he has marked his release with a new video and track that show he hasn’t lost a step while in jail.

“We Thuggin” puts Vocals’, um, vocals and rapper Nino Man’s triplet flows over August Alsina’s luxe “I Luv This Shit.” You can watch the no-frills video above, directed by Benji Filmz, or scroll down to stream and download the proper track. Vocals and Nino Man previously teamed up on 2012 mixtape Everything X2.

In December, Vocals shared “Stadium,” which was a departure for him: an original song, and an inspirational-themed one at that, with delicate keyboards. Stream that at the bottom of the page. The track came ahead of a scheduled December 19 show at Brooklyn’s Santos Party House, but organizers postponed the show, citing “unforeseen parole-related problems.” With Vocals officially back, stay tuned for possible word of a new date or — better yet — a fresh mixtape.
