The National and St. Vincent Silence an Arena in ‘This Is the Last Time’ Live Clip

The National St. Vincent 'This Is the Last Time' Live Video Barclays Center

In our recent feature on the National, St. Vincent main brain Annie Clark explained that the Brooklyn sad-rock icons are “a band about songs … Every National record is of a certain quality and every song is of a certain emotional resonance. They connect with people on a real gut level. That’s why they have staying power.” But she’s partly responsible for that success as well. Matt Berninger and his crew choose their collaborators wisely, and Clark is one of the reasons their melancholy-slinging new album Trouble Will Find Me is so good. On record, she helps lift “This Is the Last Time” to arena-worthy heights — a feat which she repeated via a surprise guest appearance last night during the National’s headlining gig at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. Relive the moment above thanks to some fan-shot video and check out SPIN’s own shots from the big show when you’re done. In St. Vincent news, she and David Byrne just released their free Brass Tactics EP as a follow-up to 2012’s better-on-paper Love This Giant LP.
