Watch the National’s Three New Songs From a Secret Show in Berlin

The National

The National played an unannounced show last night at Berlin’s Michelberger Hotel, and as Pitchfork and Consequence of Sound point out, videos of three new songs from the performance are now online. All told, the songs — “Heavenfaced,” “Fireproof,” and “Graceless” — confirm the Brooklyn rockers won’t suddenly be going dubstep on new album Trouble Will Find Me, out May 21 on 4AD. The tempos vary, but each song is intricate and ruminative, in the brooding-grandeur tradition of the band’s prior albums, most recently including 2010’s High Violet. As drummer Bryan Devendorf recently revealed, the album’s guests will include Sufjan Stevens, St. Vincent’s Annie Clark, Arcade Fire’s Richard Reed Parry, and Sharon Van Etten. Fans may be reassured to learn, though, that based on these videos, the sound is all the National’s.
