Watch the Body’s Bloody, Unsettling ‘To Attempt Openness’ Video

The Body 'To Attempt Openness' Video Stream

Avant-doom unit the Body churn together elements of black metal, drone, electronic music, and classical composition on their latest album, the just-released Christs, Redeemers. For the video to punishing single “To Attempt Openness,” the duo — composed of Chip King and Lee Buford — also pull from the world of high art. Directed by visual artist Alexander Barton, the six-minute clip is based on Barton’s own “Blood Reflects,” a performance piece that consists of a blood-like liquid getting pumped onto a blank canvas, where it’s left to run, drip, and collect in a pool on the floor. Originally performed at the New York Academy of Art in 2012, “Blood Reflects” can now be seen by hitting the play button above. Purchase Christs, Redeemers in digital, CD, and double-vinyl formats via Thrill Jockey.
