Terrific Twitterers: Academy Awards Edition!

100226-follow-friday.jpg

Lots of people tweet — but all that Twitters is not gold.

That’s why you’ll want to check out SPIN.com every Friday to see whose tweets we’re reading this week — then update your TweetDeck! (Obligatory Self-Promotion: …while you’re at it, be sure to follow @SPINmagazine!)

This week’s winners are headed to the Academy Awards next Sunday, March 7. Check them out as they tweet their way through the parties and events leading up to the big night:

  • Anna Kendrick
    @AnnaKendrick47

    Why You Should Follow: The talented Twilight star won a Best Supporting Actress nod for her role opposite George Clooney in the recession-era dramedy Up in the Air. Keeping with the theme, she tweets while waiting to get on planes (“Every time I go through airport security it feels like a publicity stunt for Up in the Air”), documents trips around the world, and shares her “#TravelRules” (“Calories don’t count in airports. Being trapped in LAX earns you a guilt free cinnabon”).

    Best Tweet of the Week: “It’s a week since oscar noms came out and my place is starting to look like a graveyard of floral arrangements. Sad face.”

  • Zoe Saldana
    @zoesaldana

    Why You Should Follow: Saldana is brand-new to Twitter and hasn’t tweeted much just yet, but expect things to heat up since she has two films — Avatar and Star Trek — up for Oscars. Follow her as she picks out dresses for the big night, raises money for the Haiti relief effort, and enjoys the fruits of her movie-making labor (“Cabo san lucas baby!!!!”).

    Best Tweet of the Week: “So proud of Avatar and Star Trek! Both movies received oscar nominations!! Go sci-fi!!”

  • Neil Gaiman
    @neilhimself

    Why You Should Follow: In 2002, Gaiman wrote a little novel called Coraline — and now the movie adaptation is nominated for Best Animated Feature. Gaiman and his girlfriend, the Dresden Dolls’ Amanda Palmer, are avid Twitterers, so expect lots of tweets as he tries to navigate the world of show business and still retain his quirky individuality.

    Best Tweet of the Week: “I wake up and CORALINE has an Oscar nom, and @thatkevinsmith has become the Jack Benny to my Fred Allen. What more could anyone want?”

  • Samm Levine
    @sammlevine

    Why You Should Follow: This Freaks and Geeks star had a very, very small role in the Best Picture-nominated Inglorious Basterds, but on Twitter, he’s A-list all the way. His hilarious tweets poke fun at Hollywood (“Ugh, too much free champagne on this flight. And not enough complimentary blow,” “I just read a terrible script while giving myself an enema”) — and, more often, himself (his Twitter Bio reads “I’m the guy from that thing you can’t remember when you meet me”).

    Best Tweet of the Week: “8 Oscar nominations for Basterds! Too bad there’s no ‘Best Actor in a Performance Edited Down to One Line’ category. #stillwouldhavebeen8”

  • Jason Reitman
    @JasonReitman

    Why You Should Follow: Reitman — who was nominated for Best Director for Juno in 2007 — is up for a few more golden statues this year. His film, Up in the Air, has won him nominations for Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay — along with Best Picture. Follow him as he celebrates victories with In-N-Out burgers, posts behind-the-scenes Twitpics, and tries to get his priorities in order (“I need to stop playing XBOX and iron my tuxedo shirt”).

    Best Tweet of the Week:“Last time I was in the Oscar class portrait my dad took a photo. This time we stood next to each other.”
