Lots of musicians tweet — but all that Twitters is not gold.

That’s why you’ll want to check out SPIN.com every Friday to see whose tweets we’re reading this week — then update your TweetDeck! (Obligatory Self-Promotion: …while you’re at it, be sure to follow @SPINmagazine!)

This week, in honor of Lady Gaga’s sold-out Monster Ball tour – which re-launched in Montreal on June 28 – we’ve been following pop’s wackiest princess herself, as well as opening acts Semi Precious Weapons and Lady Starlight. Check ’em out:

  • Lady Gaga
    @ladygaga

    Why You Should Follow: This week, Lady Gaga became the first person to reach the 10 million fan mark on Facebook, beating out President Barack Obama. She’s got him topped on Twitter as well, with 4,826,852 followers (compared to his measly 4,496,041). Her tweets offer the tiniest of glimpses into her world of glitter and vinyl nun costumes. She writes about flipping off photographers at a Mets game (“I guess I’m just a Bronx cheer kind of girl”), performing at Elton John’s AIDS benefit (“Eltonball! Dead bodies in trees, wheelchairs and tiaras. You sure know the way to a girls heart”), killing time in between U.K. shows (“In a Pub in England, ruining bar napkins with lyrics and memories. Dreams are never weak like we are, drunk or sober”), and practicing her outrageous dance numbers (“Rehearsal till we bleed. Sweat, passion, + knee pads”). Above all else, she uses her Twitter page to communicate with those who are most important to her — her fans, or “little Monsters.” She often signs her posts “X Mother Monster” and sometimes sends tweets of encouragement to followers who are feeling lost or insecure.

    Best Tweet of the Week: “Happy 4th of July little monsters! I can smell you from backstage. Lipstick, whiskey, and the rat pack. F*ck I love AC. X Mother Monster”

  • Semi Precious Weapons
    @preciousweapons

    Why You Should Follow: Just like their friend and mentor Lady Gaga, this New York City-based glam rock quartet is all about onstage theatrics — and interacting with their fans. To celebrate the release of their major label debut, You Love You, which dropped June 29, they’ve been giving away two free tickets to each of the stops on the Monster Ball tour through a contest called “Semi Precious Street Corner.” Every day they’re performing, they’ll Tweet a street corner, then give fans an hour to show up and try to claim the tickets. The band — including fiery frontman Justin Tranter — will be there in person to give the tickets to whoever can answer the most Semi Precious Weapons trivia questions correctly (or do the most creative striptease, as the case may be). The band also entertain fans with Twitpics of afterparties and “hotel shower slumber parties”.)

    Best Tweet of the Week: “NYC! Yes to win 2 tickets to the Monster Ball tonight meet us in Times Square! 4pm, find a piano, that’s where we’ll be.”

  • Lady Starlight
    @ladystarlightny

    Why You Should Follow:This Lower East Side nightlife queen, burlesque star, and DJ was one of Lady Gaga’s close friends and collaborators long before “Just Dance” ever hit the airwaves. She opened for Gaga and Semi Precious Weapons during the first of three shows at New York City’s Madison Square Garden this past Tuesday, then announced that she’d be spinning beats during the rest of the North American Monster Ball tour dates. Lady Gaga recently posted this Twitpic of herself, Lady Starlight, Justin Tranter, and makeup artist Darian Darling, calling them “the golden girls of rock ‘n’ roll.” Lady Starlight fills her days and nights with parties, heavy metal, and leather hot pants. She uses her Twitter to link to her blog, Lady Starlight’s Rock ‘n’ Roll High School, which features posts about her style icons (Thin Lizzy and Metallica, among others) and all of the obscure music and rock mags she cherishes.

    Best Tweet of the Week: “all north american dates!!!!!!!!”
