Lots of musicians tweet -- but all that Twitters is not gold.
That's why you'll want to check out SPIN.com every Friday to see whose tweets we're reading this week -- then update your TweetDeck! (Obligatory Self-Promotion: ...while you're at it, be sure to follow @SPINmagazine!)
This week's winners:
Who: St. Vincent(@st_vincent)
Why You Should Follow: Until now, St. Vincent hasn't had much presence on the Internet. Her current tour with Andrew Bird seems to have ushered her into the digital age -- she just launched a new, beautifully filmed tour diary on her Web site and started tweeting almost twice as often as she did before. When she's not posting Twitpics of asses, Bruce Springsteen's or otherwise, she's expounding the joys of iced coffee, turning her nose up at melon ("Melon is an affront to the fruit community... Don't bastardize my fruit salad with illegitimate fruit"), and trying to enjoy fashion shows while her mind is elsewhere ("It's fashion week in NYC. It's shark week in my brain"). Bonus points: She's always gracious and never forgets to tell a city how much they rule after a show!
Best Tweet of the Week: To Grizzly Bear's Ed Droste (@EdwardDroste), "How random was it to walk into the same restaurant in New Orleans yesterday? Fate and cocktails bring us together again."
Who: Art Brut's Eddie Argos (@EddieArgos)
Why You Should Follow: Art Brut's outspoken lead singer has such a Twitter addiction, he needs a Twitter patch -- you sometimes have to click "More" just to see all of his updates from one day and, by the looks of it, he responds to nearly every person who tweets at him (in multiple sentences, no less!). Luckily, his tweets are hilarious -- he writes about watching Gossip Girl and The Rachel Zoe Project, being RT'ed by one of his favorite fictional characters, teaching crows and ravens how to speak English, having conversations with cats, and dreaming about busting drug cartels and solving murders, thanks to his girlfriend's '70s police show alarm clock noise.
Best Tweet of the Week: "I watched all of the X men movies on my flight home and read Captain America and The Exiles. Just to see how the other half live."
Who: Andrew W.K. (@AndrewWK)
Why You Should Follow: Forget fighting for your right to party. According to bloody-nosed rocker Andrew W.K., party is a state of mind, man. Nearly every day, he offers tips on how to achieve the perfect "party mindset" (sort of like a Zen mindset but with more beer and public urination): "For the rest of the day treat everyone as though they were dying tomorrow. In other words, PARTY VERY HARD!" "Reach out to an old, long-lost friend, and tell them you love them and wish them joy! Then... PARTY HARD!" He doesn't limit his enthusiasm to partying -- everything he does, sees, thinks, says, and eats is given the same exclamation point treatment. A dude walking a baby on a leash? YEAH! Carpet cleaning? YEAH! Kickin' Cheddar Pringles? YEAH! He's life's biggest cheerleader, and he wants to be his followers' as well: "Remember that even when life feels hard or scary, I am here cheering you on, and you will KEEP GOING!" And, with any luck, keep partying, too.
Best Tweet of the Week: "I have no idea what's going on. Just tried to urinate on stage & some blood came out. This is really intense. Sorry if I offended anyone."
