Terrific Twitter Trio of the Week

101118-twitter-trio.jpg

Lots of musicians tweet–but all that Twitters is not gold.

That’s why you’ll want to check out SPIN.com every Friday to see whose tweets we’re reading this week–then update your TweetDeck! (Obligatory Self-Promotion: …while you’re at it, be sure to follow @SPINmagazine!)

This week’s winners:

  • Bruno Mars@BrunoMars

    Who: Bruno Mars (@BrunoMars)

Why You Should Follow: This L.A.-based singer-songwriter and producer–best known for singing on tracks like B.o.B’s “Nothin’ on You” and co-writing hits like Cee Lo Green’s “Fuck You”–recently released his debut album, Doo-Wops and Hooligans, and kicked off his first headlining tour in San Francisco. Needless to say, he’s riding high on his success–his Twitter page is full of exclamations like “Wakin up in NYC!! Life is Good!!” and “Guess who kicks off their First Show of the doo-wops & hooligans tour tonight in San Francisco? I DO!!!” He also makes sure to give back to his fans by hosting Q&A sessions where he fields questions on Twitter (in case you missed the last one, he’d love to record a song with Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz and if he could describe himself in one word, it would be “jam”). Look out for lots of behind-the-scenes videos and opportunities to make your mark on music history (“I Just got a new Gretsch Guitar!! You know i gotta give it a name. What should call it? I want to name after one of yall! the lines are open!”)–and go ahead and tweet at him, he just might tweet back!

Best Tweet of the Week: “If i wasn’t doing music i would definitely grow a Mullet, move to florida and start exterminating!!”

  • The Raveonettes @theraveonettes

    Who: The Raveonettes (@theraveonettes)

Why You Should Follow: While they mostly tweet news about tours and albums (“update on b sides collection. we’re still working on it! dealing with rights/license etc. boring stuff. still aiming for 2010 release”), this Danish noise-pop duo also knows how to take a good Twitpic. Currently opening for the Flaming Lips on their Asian tour, Sune and Sharin have been posting photos of balloon- and confetti-filled shows in Hong Kong, sightseeing excursions to Tiananmen Square, and “Welcome to Shanghai” sake. In the past, they’ve tweeted pictures of soundchecks, rehearsal sessions, “faithful friends”, and boozy nights in. Oh, yeah, and plenty of shots of the pair looking too hip for words.

Best Tweet of the Week: This snapshot of the very clever sign for one of their venues in China, the Mao Livehouse. Also, this tweet: “so much to do, see, play, so little time. see you out there.”

  • Sean Ono Lennon @seanonolennon

    Who: Sean Ono Lennon (@seanonolennon)

Why You Should Follow: Famous, talented parents aside, this Beatles heir has made a name for himself all on his own. After a couple of solo albums, film scores, and performances with his mother’s Plastic Ono Band, he’s settled down with girlfriend Charlotte Kemp Muhl to form a folk-pop duo called The GOASTT. They released their first album, Acoustic Sessions, in October, and have been touring Europe and Asia and playing random shows in New York City and Los Angeles ever since. Sean documents it all on Twitter, posting lots of Twitpics from the road (like this shot of UFOs he saw in Tokyo, which he captioned “curiouser and curiouser…”) and tweeting in between shows and when he doesn’t feel like packing. He tweets back and forth with fans, too, but watch what you say to him–he’s been in an ongoing battle with one Twitterer who holds a grudge against his mom, and he isn’t afraid to let loose on the guy (“you’re 15, you live with your mom, you’re a virgin, an IQ of 91, and twitter gives you balls. Brave man”).

Best Tweet of the Week: This photo. “Good thing about jetlag; vertical sunrise at 530am,” he wrote.
