Terrific Twitter Trio of the Week

muse-game-meister.jpg

Lots of musicians tweet — but all that Twitters is not gold.

That’s why you’ll want to check out SPIN.com every Friday to see whose tweets we’re reading this week — then update your TweetDeck! (Obligatory Self-Promotion: …while you’re at it, be sure to follow @SPINmagazine!)

This week’s winners:

  • The Game
    @thegame

    Why You Should Follow: No one talks smack quite like this L.A. rapper. The Game — who famously beefed with 50 Cent — tweet-attacks everyone from Christina Millian (“I hope Christina Milian baby don’t get her toes……. so many corns on them mothafucka’s they should come wit chicken & mash potatoes!!!”) to Rev. Al Sharpton (“he came out & the doctor gave him to his mommy & she said #NahImGood”). When he’s not hating on Oprah and “Team Blackberry,” he’s plotting pranks (“I’m high as f#@$ ! I think I’m bout to order 20 Papa John’s pizzas to my neighbors house. hope dey aint got twitter, that ah blow my cover”) and cracking “You know you’re fat when…” and “You know you’re ugly when…” jokes. Bonus points: He often tweets updates about his upcoming release, The R.E.D. Album, due February 16.

    Best Tweet of the Week: “yo rap career aint takin off da way u thought & I’m on my 4th album, #soyoumadnow? easiest way 2 fame, beat up a established rapper on tape”

  • Leighton Meester
    @itsmeleighton

    Why You Should Follow: The Gossip Girl star and “Somebody to Love” singer — whose debut album is slated for an early 2010 release — tweets about adventures in Vegas and being a “lady in the streets, freak in the sheets.” When she’s not wishing her followers “happiness, love, truth, friends/family, sex, $$$,” she’s documenting nightclub concerts and Gossip Girl shoots, quoting Friedrich Nietzsche (“In heaven, all the interesting people are missing”), and tweeting her way through sleepless nights at the studio. Bonus points: She gives frequent shout-outs to fans (especially those who tweet at her!) and seems genuinely interested in hearing their thoughts whenever she releases a new song or video.

    Best Tweet of the Week: “Aries horoscope told me to listen to my sock puppet monkeys’ urges today.”

  • Muse
    @muse

    Why You Should Follow: The members of this British prog-rock band — who appeared on our September cover — don’t usually have a whole lot to say on Twitter. They do, however, have a whole lot to show. They post daily Twitpics of their adventures on the road, offering glimpses at the sightseeing trips, airport security checks, Saturday Night Live appearances, and photo shoots that define their touring experience. Expect lots of silliness, like this shot of bassist Christopher Wolstenholme with a mouth full of pasta and this picture of the guys posing in a serious set of jaws.

    Best Tweet of the Week: This photo of the adoring fans who gathered at their hotel after a performance in Seoul, Korea.
