Terrific Twitter Trio of the Week

follow-friday.jpg

Lots of musicians tweet — but all that Twitters is not gold.

That’s why you’ll want to check out SPIN.com every Friday to see whose tweets we’re reading this week — then update your TweetDeck! (Obligatory Self-Promotion: …while you’re at it, be sure to follow @SPINmagazine!)

This week’s winners:

Who: Amy Winehouse (@amyjademermaid)

Why You Should Follow: The beehived British diva — who famously said “no, no, no” to rehab — has a boring, publicist-run Twitter (@AmyWinehouse) for news updates and another account for her own personal musings on love, life, and snorting hot sauce. While it sounds like it might be too good to be true (and the page isn’t verified yet), the random outbursts, attacks on @perezhilton and the paparazzi, and constant Blake chatter seem pretty genuine. Tweets like “what do ya do wiv a drunken sailor?earlIE in the morning awning. please, god, up she rises” practically seal the deal. Bonus points: Her dad, @mitchwinehouse, is also an avid Twitterer and the two sometimes exchange tweets.

Best Tweet of the Week: “yesterday i played an sang to na$ on skype an DIDN’T suffer any panic related fatalities after… an these are our heroes..”

Who: Dave Navarro (@davenavarro6767)

Why You Should Follow: When he drinks too much coffee, Navarro – who plays guitar with Jane’s Addiction and the Billy Corgan-led supergroup Spirits in the Sky – tweets like a maniac about everything from Maury episodes to S&M diets (“My Food Dominatrix has ordered, ‘No water, no salt, no bread'”) to wanting to bang convicted murderer Amanda Knox. Whether he’s tweeting about the joys of his monochromatic wardrobe (“Wearing only black means never having to separate your laundry”), looking for a fix… for a cold (“Walking down Hollywood Blvd to cop a bottle of NyQuil”), or posting Twitpics ofBarbie doll whores and Ouija boards, Navarro keeps things random and funny. Watch out for lots of Hello Kitty-related tweets — Navarro is so obsessed with the Japanese cartoon character that he collects Hello Kitty merchandise like guitars, picks, socks, and figurines. Bonus points: He often tweets dirty with porn stars!

Best Tweet of the Week: “Wondering if ‘Ribbed for her pleasure’ is some kind of reference to Adam and Eve.”

Who: Imogen Heap (@imogenheap)

Why You Should Follow: This British electro-pop singer — who recently earned two Grammy nominations for her latest album, Ellipse — keeps her Twitter page all about the fans. After tweeting about new tour dates in India, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand, she took time to respond to many of the followers who asked, “Hey, what about my country?” She even promised one French girl that she’d find a way to perform in Paris if she had to book the club herself. When she’s not communicating with fans, Heap tweets about life on the road, searching for a new cellist, wandering around Boulder, CO, in a mustache, and planning out her Grammy outfit (it’s going to involve LED lights).

Best Tweet of the Week: “Trentemøller! Where have I been? Love this Dane! I need to get into this music listening thing again. I’m missing out. x”
