Terrific Twitter Trio of the Week

follow-friday-t-swift.jpg

Lots of musicians tweet — but all that Twitters is not gold.

That’s why you’ll want to check out SPIN.com every Friday to see whose tweets we’re reading this week — then update your TweetDeck! (Obligatory Self-Promotion: …while you’re at it, be sure to follow @SPINmagazine!)

This week’s winners:

Who: Taylor Swift (@taylorswift13)

Why You Should Follow:After handling that whole Kanye debacle at the MTV Video Music Awards with grace and class beyond her 19 years, hosting SNL to great fanfare, and winning Performer of the Year at Wednesday’s CMA Awards, it’s safe to say that Taylor Swift has become America’s sweetheart. But on Twitter, she’s still the girl next door, tweeting about grocery shopping, playing with her dogs, dancing the night away at a Paramore concert, and hanging out in her bedroom, reading Seventeen and eating chocolate. Tweets about playing basketball with Garth Brooks and going to Katy Perry’s birthday party are followed by tweets about helping her dad search for his bifocals and watching movies with her mom. And she remains sweet and humble even when winning an award or hearing her hit song “Fifteen” on the radio!

Best Tweet of the Week: After her big CMA win, “I have said ‘i love you’ to so many people tonight. I can’t stop hugging people. This is magical.”

Who: Passion Pit (@passionpit)

Why You Should Follow:This Cambridge, MA, electro-pop band is currently touring the world — and tweeting news items, pictures, and delightfully random thoughts as they bounce from country to country. Expect comparisons of their members to characters from Fraggle Rock, tweeted searches for free tattoos and Wurlitzer pedals, soundcheck photos, and interactions with Grizzly Bear’s @EdwardDroste, @TokyoPoliceClub, and even @McCainBlogette (John McCain’s daughter!). If that’s not enough Passion Pit for you, check out bassist Jeff Apruzzese’s Twitter (@pepperones) — he updates more frequently, with tweets like “amsterdam, you beautiful devil” and “I just gave dan deacon and his gf a handful of condoms.”

Best Tweet of the Week: “Saw a store called ‘The Obama Phone – The Black Phone’ driving through Paris.. what?”

Who: Girl Talk (@therealgirltalk)

Why You Should Follow:If there’s one musician you need to follow during football season, it’s Gregg Gillis (a.k.a. mashup artist extraordinaire Girl Talk). The devoted Pittsburgh Steelers fan often live-tweets during games and gives shout-outs to random people he sees wearing Kordell Stewart jerseys. When he’s not tweeting about touchdowns, he’s sharing the secrets to his slim figure (“wings, chicken fajitas, chicken and shrimp, sweet potato fries, baked beans”), wondering who Karen O. supports in the NFL, jamming to Mariah Carey, and getting denied from clubs (but scoring pizza). The one person he follows on Twitter is @THE_REAL_SHAQ, so expect frequent re-tweets of Shaq’s musings.

Best Tweet of the Week: “whoa missed this. RT @THE_REAL_SHAQ Would people b mad, if I woulda stepped on that bat, that manu ginobli knocked out the air.”
