Terrific Twitter Trio of the Week

Lots of musicians tweet — but all that Twitters is not gold.

That’s why you’ll want to check out SPIN.com every Friday to see whose tweets we’re reading this week — then update your TweetDeck! (Obligatory Self-Promotion: …while you’re at it, be sure to follow @SPINmagazine!)

This week’s winners:

Who: Matt & Kim (@mattandkim)

Why You Should Follow: This wide-eyed Brooklyn duo’s unabashed enthusiasm isn’t limited to their live shows. On Twitter, they’re all smiles, even when the front wheel on Kim’s bike gets stolen or they’re surrounded by screaming babies on an airplane. They tweet sheepishly about wearing T-shirts with naughty phrases to Disney World and eating leftover nachos, and excitedly about getting nominated for an MTV Video Music Award and opening for DJ Jazzy Jeff. As they prepare for their upcoming headlining U.S. tour, expect lots of Twitpics from rehearsal sessions!
Best Tweet of the Week: This shot of Kim’s hands after a long week of drumming.

Who: Mika (@mikasounds)

Why You Should Follow: The quirky U.K. pop singer has one of the most unique Twitter pages on the web. His wallpaper shows an animated donkey with a bright golden halo around its head, and his “bio” reads “long live the golden donkey. may he guard my page. fear the donkey, love the donkey, donkey is GOOD.” His tweets are just as wacky — he writes about painting voodoo faces, “dancing like a coconut,” and threatening to burn down pubs. He also tweets about his upcoming album, The Boy Who Knew Too Much, and the pros of cons of stardom (example: Debbie Harry knows who he is and asks him out for drinks; he doesn’t go because he’s too tired from relentless photo shoots and interviews).
Best Tweet of the Week: “going mountain climbing in the french alps, cant think of work there, if you do… you fall off and die. Ha!”

Who: Of Montreal (@xxOfMontrealxx)

Why You Should Follow: Really, why shouldn’t you follow? A band that gives its albums names like Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? is exactly the kind of band that makes for an interesting follow on Twitter. One sample tweet: “i was at the hospital today, getting another sex change, my last one had gotten filthy at the beach…” And another: “I feel a new persona coming on. Name-Mandy, Gender-female, Age 12, Ethnicity-Latino. My career is over!” While sometimes completely nonsensical, their updates are always, always entertaining.
Best Tweet of the Week: “If I could dr funkenstein the world, start this bitch anew, I’d change the shit outta u!”
