Mad Season and Temple of the Dog Reunited With Help From a Full Orchestra

Some rock reunions can drag on forever, but whether out of respect for the circumstances or general prudence a couple of Seattle icons got back together for a one-off show on Friday night. Temple of the Dog, who’s been known to occasionally join up for a nostalgic number, and Mad Season performed with the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, marking the latter act’s first live appearance in decades. The night largely revolved around Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready, who played in both acts and was debuting several classical compositions with the orchestra, according to Rolling Stone.

Mad Season was originally fronted by Alice In Chains singer Layne Staley, who passed away in 2002, so Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell filled in for the three singles from the band’s only album Above. The rest of Pearl Jam, sans Eddie Vedder, eventually came out to join the pair for Temple of the Dog’s “Call Me a Dog” and “Reach Down.”

Former Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan filled in for Mad Season’s late bassist John Baker Saunders. You can watch clips of the performance (featuring the orchestra!) above, via Consequence of Sound.
