Tegan and Sara dropped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show yesterday (February 13) to woo some more fans with a bouncy rendition of "Closer," the synthy lead single off the SPIN cover stars' Essential new album, Heartthrob. The daytime talk show version of this standout track isn't quite as electric as the performance the Quin twins recently gave on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, but even an in-studio stage can't keep this Top 40-groomed tune down. Bathed in purple light, the Canadian duo work this lithe triumph — with its twinkling keyboards, driving rhythm, and layered vocals — for all its worth.
DeGeneres, who called the gig "fantastic," enjoyed the Quins' show enough to give everyone in the audience a copy of Heartthrob. The host even tweeted that she wanted to meet the 32-year-old sisters' mom, responding to a heartwarming tweet Tegan and Sara sent out on February 11 that read, "Can't believe we get to be on ELLEN! My mom is seriously excited. We've finally made it in her eyes." Aw.
