Bad news for those of us hoping to whip out some Taylor Swift Monday morning music (“Ours”? “A Place in This World”? Perhaps “Fifteen” for the youngins?) on the way to work/school today. It appears Ms. Swift, long-reluctant to put her new albums on Spotify, has now pulled her old albums as well, leaving her soundtrack contributions to Hunger Games and Hannah Montana and her guest appearances on hits by the likes of Tim McGraw and B.o.B. as her sole representation on the Spot.
No comment yet from Taylor as to why she’s dumped the world-popular streaming service, though she would hardly be the first artist to air grievances over the financial compensation artists receive from the company on the plays their songs get. In any event, Spotify is hoping it’s not never-ever-ever with Taylor, and has actually posted a message on their website pleading to get back together with the pop superstar:
We love Taylor Swift, and our more than 40 million users love her even more – nearly 16 million of them have played her songs in the last 30 days, and she’s on over 19 million playlists.
We hope she’ll change her mind and join us in building a new music economy that works for everyone. We believe fans should be able to listen to music wherever and whenever they want, and that artists have an absolute right to be paid for their work and protected from piracy. That’s why we pay nearly 70% of our revenue back to the music community.

The service also made her a couple mixtapes (awwww!) to help change her mind, with some not-so-covert messages contained therein.
Good luck to Spotify, for all our sakes, in convincing their girl that she still belongs with them — though if recent history is any indication, bad blood with Taylor doesn’t wash out so easily.
