Taylor Swift Defends Her ‘O’ Face to ‘Nightline’

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift’s constant state of surprise all the many times she wins awards has become a stale punchline by now, mocked by Blake Shelton at this year’s Academy of Country Music Awards and by Kristen Wiig on a February episode of Saturday Night Live. Asking the tough questions, ABC’s Nightline prodded the singer and songwriter about her “shocked face” in an interview last night, ahead of the October 22 release of Swift’s fourth album, Red (via ONTD). “People make so much fun of me for that,” Swift can be seen saying with a smile, “and I just, I don’t know. It’s like, if you win an award, isn’t that crazy? … How do you sit there and be like ‘Oh, another Grammy. I guess I’m gonna get that now’?” Told she’s not blasé, she says, “I try to be sometimes, but it’s just hard when you get excited about stuff.” When Taylor Swift is working with Max Martin and veering into dubstep-influenced breakdowns, it’s hard to be surprised by anything anymore.
