During this year’s Austin City Limits Music Festival in Austin, TX, artists stopped by the American Express® ZYNC ZONE, to chat with SPIN about their summer festival experiences and much more, among them San Diego’s Switchfoot — watch our video interview, plus performance footage below!

Switchfoot makes music about their lives.Frontman Jon Foreman said the songs he pens are a document of what is going on with him. “For me it’s a journey where you’re documenting your life in song and that’s where these songs come from,” he said.

For the band, rock’n’roll is important but it’s not life changing. “Rock ‘n’ roll along can’t change the world but I do believe that it can light fires,” Foreman said.”People change the world, we do it every day and if a song can inspire somebody then it can be life changing.”
