Hear Superchunk’s ‘Me & You & Jackie Mittoo’ Played by the Fenway Park Organist

When Superchunk dropped the music video for “Me & You & Jackie Mittoo” back in August, we noted, “The clip won’t reverse death, but it’ll make the next two minutes of your life better.” And that’s exactly what this I Hate Music insta-classic did for a crowd at Boston’s Fenway Park on September 20. Josh Kantor, the organist for the Red Sox, covered the song while the Beantown team faced off against the Toronto Blue Jays. Someone in the crowd recognized the melody and tweeted at Kantor, who confirmed that the organ-led intermission was in fact a tribute to one of indie rock’s all-time great bands. Now we’ve got video proof of the homage, which has prompted a flood of praise from fans and even a retweet from Superchunk themselves.

Hit the play button above and supply the vocals for yourself: “I hate music / What is it worth? / Can’t bring anyone back to this earth.”
