Suicidal Tendencies Resurrected With First New Album in 13 Years

In case one way-overdue album titled 13 wasn’t enough for you, there’s another on the way. On March 26, Suicidal Tendencies will unleash 13, the Venice, California punk outfit’s first studio album in … (wait for it) … 13 years.

Some more numbers: The pending follow-up to 2000’s Free Your Soul and Save My Mind features 13 tracks and commemorates the 30th anniversary of the thrash legends’ self-titled debut album. Frontman Mike Muir co-produced the forthcoming LP — which will be released through Suicidal Records — with Paul Northfield, whose previous credits include Ozzy Osbourne, Hole, Marilyn Manson, and Rush, among others.

“First, thank you for all the people that have patiently waited for this record,” Muir said in a press release. “Now I will shut up and let the music do the talking.”

Suicidal Tendencies paired this announcement with the above video for “Cyco Style,” a fresh slam-shuffle slated to appear on 13. The clip, filmed in São Paulo, Brazil, cuts between footage of the hardcore crew tearing through their live show onstage, in front of a mosh pit, and performing the track while locked behind bars.

In an interview with Loudwire last year, Muir discussed the thrash unit’s recent writing and recording process. “We’ve always had new music in the works,” Muir said. “Now it’s actually to the point that we have some that we’re ready to put out. Now is the time to put out a new record and we feel really, really good about it.” He added, “When we look at a record, we don’t want to have it sound like 2012. We want it to sound awesome 25 years from now, so when a kid who wasn’t even born when we made it listens to it, he’s like, ‘Damn, that’s a cool record!'”

Suicidal Tendencies have also charted an upcoming tour, with stops booked in Japan and across the U.S. Before the elder punks embark on their April to May excursion, they’ll play a single gig at South By Southwest on March 15. Head below for the track listing to 13 and tour dates.
