Hear the Sugar Stems’ Irrepressible Power-Pop Cut ‘6 Feet Under’

Sugar Stems

The Sugar Stems’ power-pop is so undeniably sticky that the Milwaukee foursome can even make a song titled “6 Feet Under” feel like a victory lap. Never mind that frontwoman Betsy Heibler sings about getting nauseous from too much cotton candy or that she repeatedly warns, “Don’t hold your breath / You might not get what you want” — this crew’s jangly, Golden Retriever-like melodies are immune to even the bleakest brand of cynicism. Their sophomore album, Can’t Wait, arrives April 9 via Dirtnap Records.
