Sufjan Stevens Shares Serene New Single, ‘Should Have Known Better’

Sufjan Stevens, Carrie & Lowell, Should Have Known Better

Sufjan Steven’s promised return to his folk roots seems more and more a sure thing as he continues to release new songs from his upcoming album, Carrie & Lowell. On Wednesday, he shared “Should Have Known Better,” a composed and tranquil track that showcases his pleasant strumming and almost-whispered vocals. Stevens adds just a tiny pinch of his more energetic electronic leanings in the second half of the song, giving it a nice — if low-key — energy. It’s a fitting partner to the first single, “No Shade in the Shadow of the Cross,” which he released last month. Listen to the new track above, and look for Carrie & Lowell on March 31.
