Sub Pop Invites J Mascis, Mudhoney, and Pissed Jeans to Label’s 25th Birthday Party

Sub Pop, silver jubilee

Earlier this year, Sub Pop sort of announced plans to celebrate its 25th anniversary with a single-day Silver Jubilee festival. The vague invitation read, “We are fairly certain there will be some combination of… Actual live bands, playing actual live music! Some sort of art-related something or other! Like, in a gallery space, we’re thinking! A record-type event! Food! Beer and wine… Good times and opportunities to embarrass yourself and those who’d always hoped for better for you! Plus, bands!”

Now, we have actual details about the acts playing Sub Pop’s Silver Jubilee, and, as expected, the initial wave of performers collects artists from the label’s quarter-century-deep roster. So far, the roster includes Mudhoney, J Mascis, the Afghan Whigs’ Greg Dulli, Shearwater, Father John Misty, SPIN profile subjects Pissed Jeans, Shabazz Palaces (with THEESatisfaction), the Baptist Generals, Brothers of the Sonic Cloth (featuring Tad Doyle), and Endino’s Earthworm. Additional acts will be revealed in the coming weeks.

Sub Pop’s 25th birthday party is scheduled to take place on July 13, along Airport Way in the Seattle neighborhood of Georgetown. The event is free, all-ages, and likely to run from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Anyone who makes a $5 donation will receive a limited-edition tote bag; all proceeds raised will be given to local charities, such as 90.3FM KEXP, Northwest Harvest, and the Northwest Parkinson’s Foundation. Festival-goers will also have access to several local food trucks, beer gardens, at least one gallery exhibit, a record fair, and the Sub Pop Mega Mart as a pop-up shop.
