Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks have shared the second music video in support of their next album, the fast-approaching Wig Out at Jagbags. Following the lyric video for the reference-heavy tune “Lariat” (which cheekily featured French subtitles, rather than English ones), comes a very literal clip for “Cinnamon and Lesbians,” a song Malkmus and the Jicks were recently caught playing onstage in Portland.
Directed by Jay Winebrenner, the video pairs nearly every line in the track with a visual button. When the ex-Pavement leader sings of power lines, the camera cuts to a shot of power lines. The “cinnamon and lesbians” semi-rhyme conjures, well, a jar of cinnamon sticks and a lesbian couple. The lyric, “I’ve been tripping my face off since breakfast” demands a bowl of cereal and an on-the-nose, psychedelic color scheme. You get the idea.
Wig Out at Jagbags arrives on January 7 via Matador, but will be streaming for free on Amazon beginning on December 31.
