Solange Knowles’ officially launched her Saint Records last week with the Saint Records compilation, effectively hijacking the “Indie R&B” narrative while delivering gems from the likes of Cassie, Sampha, Kelela, Jhené Aiko, and BC Kingdom. Now we get the 12-song set’s coda from Solange herself: “Cash In,” a love song whose theme fits with the pro-artist, do-it-yourself mentality that no doubt birthed the label in the first place. Knowles’ songwriting chops are more than proven (Beyoncé’s “Get Me Bodied,” for one) and her association with Blood Orange pretty much means there’s nothing she and the crew she’s assembled can’t accomplish. “We don’t need to lay in bed / Sleep all day? We’ll sleep when dead / We don’t need to wait on them / Listen to the sounds of this right here.”
