Smashing Pumpkins to Stream Unreleased 1997 Concert for ‘1979’-Era Reissue

Smashing Pumpkins Aeroplane box set concert stream

To celebrate the reissue of their 1996 box set The Aeroplane Flies High, Smashing Pumpkins are giving fans a sneak peek at one of the bonus features: A never-before-released 1997 concert filmed in Belfort, France. On Saturday, July 20 at 9 p.m. ET, they’re holding an interactive viewing party on their Facebook page, where fans can chat and get “time-released Social Widgets, delivering exclusive images, trivia, polls and video clips that can be shared via social networks.”

The concert took place near the end of their Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness tour, after they had released the outtake-filled 33-song, five-CD box set (and when James Iha and D’Arcy were still in the picture). The reissue takes Aeroplane to another level: 104 tracks with demos (like this acoustic one of “1979”), more outtakes, and plenty of live material spread over six discs (or five LPs) and one DVD. It’s due out July 23 via Universal.
