Sky Ferreira and DIIV's Zachary Cole Smith turned up in the police blotter of Hudson Valley, New York's Daily Freeman over the weekend (via Pitchfork). According to information provided by the police, authorities in the town of Saugerties arrested the musical pair at 12:30 a.m. on Saturday. The charges against them range from drug possession to driving with stolen license plates.

UPDATE: Smith has addressed the issue using DIIV's Twitter account, stressing the fact that the duo are innocent until proven guilty, claiming that the police were out to get them, and that Ferreira, at least, is innocent.

Ferreira, whose "Everything Is Embarrassing" cracked SPIN's 40 Best Songs of 2012, faces "misdemeanor charges of criminal possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest," according to the Daily Freeman. Smith, whose dream-pop band put out the solid Oshin last year on Captured Tracks, was "charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, one count of possession of stolen property and one count of aggravated unlicensed driving, all misdemeanors," the paper writes. It continues: "He was also charged with the violations of unregistered motor vehicle, driving without insurance, unlicensed driver, and having an inadequate exhaust system."

Police also reportedly said they "found a plastic bag containing 42 decks of heroin" while arresting Smith, and they said Ferreira "was found in possession of Ecstasy." The paper adds, "Police said a registration check showed the license plates on the truck were stolen and the driver, Smith, was wanted by the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office on an outstanding vehicle and traffic warrant." In lieu of bail, the two were sent to the Ulster County Jail.

Just last week, Ferreira announced the title and release date for her long-postponed debut album; Night Time, My Time is due out on October 29 via Capitol. DIIV, who've been planning a 2014 sophomore LP, performed on September 14 at BasilicaSoundScape, a music festival in Hudson, New York. Ferreira's fall tour with Vampire Weekend and Solange kicks off on September 19 in Philadelphia. Ferreira features in DIIV's "Wait" video from earlier this year. At the time of this post, neither Ferreira nor Smith had addressed the arrests via Twitter.
