The cold and the rain couldn't keep Ben Chasny's fans away from the cozy Mohawk bar last night (Jan. 17). Red River's hottest hunting lodge-cum-hipster haven was packed with Austin audiophiles in their thickest sweatshirts and homemade scarves there to trip into the intimate psych rock sounds of Six Organs of Admittance. A solo Ben Chasny got the show underway with his acoustic guitar and a small army of effect pedals. Playing new tunes "Alone With The Alone" and "Jade and Wine" -- both included on his latest studio offering, Shelter From the Ash -- he seamlessly transitioned between melodic finger picking and walls of garage-worthy sound.

Next up, Chasny switched to his electric guitar and brought Magik Markers guitar maven Elisa Ambrogio on stage. Together, the two created a perfect musical storm that was electrifying to experience. Chasny lived up to his reputation as a guitar virtuoso while Ambrogio pulled out all the tricks from metal-worthy shredding to playing her electric like a lap steel. Bodies swaying, fingers flashing, the dueling guitars ravished each other, highlighted by Chasny's passionately raw lyrics. By the time they wrapped up the show with "Home," the instruments had come alive, screaming and wailing along with their masters.
