Scott Weiland Gives Bizarre Radio Interview

Last month, Stone Temple Pilots announced they were taking a “short break” from their tour, suspending 10 dates in Texas, Oklahoma, and the Southeast. The news came after frontman Scott Weiland delivered a rant at a Houston show on September 19, where he admitted he had started drinking again.

STP are set to resume their tour tonight in Tampa, Florida – although judging by an interview Scott Weiland gave to an area radio station, it doesn’t sound like the band has totally recovered from their “short break.” (Check out the bizarre interview with Weiland here.)

In the interview with radio station 102.5 The Bone, Weiland went on about why STP had troubles with their last show in Tampa – only to be reminded by the radio host that the singer missed the date.

“I think that was the show where there was a foot-long like…it’s like, normally, the stage is just a flat stage,” Weiland said in between multiple pauses. “And this was a really high stage. And I spun around, did a little James Brown move and I slipped and fell right into about eight feet.”

The radio host chimed in: “I think we’re confusing that with a different show. You did not make it to the ampitheatre last year. The Stone Temple Pilots were there but Scott Weiland was not there.”

The DJ went on to ask Weiland if he’s been drinking again – “Seriously, you’re not drunk right now?” he asked – which prompted the singer to deny he’s relapsed. “No. I’ve had my kids for the last three days since I got clean.”

STP have 23 dates left on their remaining tour, which wraps December 18 Bogota, Colombia.

In related news, Weiland is set to release an album of Christmas standards titled Most Wonderful Time of the Year on November 23, according to a post on Amazon. The singer told ExploreMusic in August that the set would be “very traditional” takes on holiday tunes. The album will be Weiland’s second stab at covering Christmas music: in 2009, he released a single of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.”
