Ronson Honors Amy, Electric Daisy Riot + More

  • Mark Ronson paid tribute to Amy Winehouse by performing a selection of her songs at a concert in London last night — his first performance since the singer’s death on July 23. Ronson was joined by her backing band for takes on “Valerie” and the Rumble Strips singer Charlie Waller for “Back to Black.” “She made brilliant music, more than I’ll make in my entire life,” he said.   • A riot broke out last night at the Los Angeles premiere of Kevin Kerslake‘s documentary film about the Electric Daisy Carnival, after a tweet sent out by DJ Kaskade called for fans to show up for a “block party” outside Grauman’s Chinese Theatre. When police tried to quell the crowd — reportedly in the thousands — by cordoning off the block, fans reacted by throwing bottles and setting fire to one patrol car. Kaskade tried to tone things down when he later posted “EVERYONE NEEDS TO GO HOME” on his Twitter. [The Hollywood Reporter]

  • The Smiths will get the box set treatment via a massive collection titled The Smiths Complete, due out from Rhino on October 3. The set features remastered versions of eight albums on CD and vinyl, reproductions of 25 7-inch singles, and loads more ephemera. Guitarist Johnny Marr and producer Frank Arkwright compiled the reissues from the band’s original tape sources. [Rhino]

  • Jack White‘s next project: the guitarist is teaming up with Australian singer Lanie Lane for a new single, set to be released on his Third Man Records imprint. The release (also available on iTunes) will feature two tracks, titled “Ain’t Hungry” and “My Man.” It’s out August 23. [Lanie Lane]

  • Universal has unveiled the tracklisting for Nirvana‘s Nevermind reissue, which features a remixed version of the album, live movie from Seattle in 1991, in-studio radio broadcasts, demos, and more.   • Australian psych-rockers Empire of the Sun will return to the U.S. this fall with an eight-date tour. The trek kicks off on September 8 in Boston, MA, and wraps up on October 15 at San Francisco’s Treasure Island Music Festival. [Some Kind of Awesome]
