Rome Fortune isn’t abandoning the tracks he left off of last month’s muted, mournful Beautiful Pimp II mixtape (the sequel to SPIN’s #23 Best Hip-Hop Album of 2013). A sole producer, CitoOnTheBeat, helped craft that entire soul-baring set, so “Four Flats,” an Mideast-tinged C4 production that surfaced last fall, didn’t make the cut. But now the Atlanta rapper has shared a video, directed by Goldrush and edited by Glassface, that plays out like a visual riff on his repetition, “My mind is trippin’ / My mind is trippin’ / My mind is trippin’.” Hallucinogenic colors play across the screen, Rome raps in front of a graffiti-sprayed backdrop, and then it gets wild, as his face appears in vintage footage. He’s grinning for a reason.
