The Rolling Stones wrapped their 50th anniversary mini-tour back in December, but the English rock icons are getting one more shot at a victory lap, thanks to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. On May 24, the Rock Hall will open “Rolling Stones: 50 Years of Satisfaction,” a major exhibition dedicated to the “World’s Greatest Rock and Roll Band,” celebrating its half-century legacy.
“The Rolling Stones are the epitome of rock and roll,” Greg Harris, president and CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, said in a statement. “This first-ever exhibit gives us an opportunity to tell the story of one of the definitive rock and roll bands. The experience should be on every music fan’s destination list this summer.”
“50 Years of Satisfaction” will follow the Stones’ journey from their earliest club gigs to their more recent club gigs. The exhibit, which reportedly occupies two-and-a-half floors of the museum, will feature rare personal items from the band and rely on artifacts, film, text, and interactive technology to honor the rock’n’roll lifers. Throughout the exhibition’s run, which ends in March 2014, the Rock Hall will host several free public programs — including interviews, films, and lectures — focused on the Stones, who were inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1989.
This year’s class of inductees includes Public Enemy, Rush, Heart, and Donna Summer, among others. Performances are expected from current SPIN cover star Dave Grohl, Christina Aguilera, Gary Clark Jr., John Mayer, and more.
The 28th Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held on April 18, 2013, at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. HBO will broadcast the ceremony on Saturday, May 18, at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
