Surfacing from a tumultuous 2006, a year that saw drummer Pat Spurgeon undergo a kidney transplant -- thanks in part to a few musically minded pals -- Oakland-based indie darlings Rogue Wave have capped efforts for Asleep at Heaven's Gate, the quartet's cult-ishly titled third LP and debut record for Jack Johnson's Brushfire label due Sept. 18. The new 12-track affair, the much-mooted follow up to 2005's acclaimed Sub Pop release Descended Like Vultures, was produced by Roger Moutenot (Yo La Tengo, Sleater Kinney, Elvis Costello) and features collaborations with John Vanderslice and Nada Surf's Matthew Caws. In addition, the new effort also showcases newfound low-ender Patrick Abernathy (formerly of Beulah). Details regarding the band's appearance on the Hale-Bopp comet are yet-to-be confirmed.
