INTERVIEWSROGER CORMAN'S HORROR FILMS

The Bob Dylan of low-budget horror flicks, never has a DIY director/producer been so lauded for producing movies that continually rate as "Yuck" on Rotten Tomatoes. In fact, Corman received an Hononary Academy Award for his contributions, from his 1960s Edgar Allen Poe series starring Vincent Price — imagine sexploitation kingpin Russ Meyer helming Saw — to counterculture favorites like The Trip. But hidden underneath Corman's trashy Technicolor nightmares are moments of pure cinematic terror, thanks to the first-time directors he hired: Coppola, Scorsese, Cameron. This playful clash between kitsch and art, highbrow and lowbrow, is obviously something AnCo can get behind.
