Rick Rubin, Green Day Join U2 in Studio

As the Irish rockers work on their 2007 album, Green Day will visit to record a post-punk cover to benefit Katrina victims.

U2 updated fans on the progress of their next studio album, due next year, announcing Rick Rubin as producer, and also that Green Day will be visiting to work on a cover of the Skids' "The Saints Are Coming." Rubin, the legendary producer whose last few projects have involved a diverse array of artists including Linkin Park, Neil Diamond, Johnny Cash, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, will be working with U2 for the first time. According to U2.com, the Green Day collaboration is yet to occur, but the two bands plan to collaborate on "The Saints Are Coming," proceeds from which will benefit Music Rising, the non-profit founded by U2's the Edge that helps replace musical instruments lost in the disaster.
