Following Bon Iver’s set, the buzz at the Mohawk continued to grow, the entry line reaching unprecedented lengths, some fans giving up and standing on concrete barricades and climbing trees to get within ear shot of Swede Jens Lekman’s set. Pulling the bulk of tunes from new LP Night Over Kortedala, Lekman pranced about the stage, engaging the crowd with a little banter and even a few jester-like antics, while plucking out endearing, tender tracks such as the bouncing, key-heavy “I’m Leaving You Because I Don’t Love You,” and the Motown worthy “The Opposite of Hallelujah,” which you can watch here:
On the opposite end of the spectrum, Los Angeles’ art-punkers No Age closed off the night at Habana Calle Annex with an ear-drum rattling collection of snappy, straight-to-the-point wall-of-noise rockers. Between a handful of tracks from 2007’s Weirdo Rippers, vocalist/drummer Dean Spunt rambled off on Tofurkey and the Warped Tour, while guitarist Randy Randall tuned his six-string and prepared to lay fuzzed feedback and shred prog-worthy riffs to Spunt’s wild pounding. No Age even treated the late night crowd to few new tunes from their forthcoming LP Nouns, including the sputtering and short yet mind-boggling “Teen Creeps.”
