Relive R.E.M.’s Greatest MTV Moments With ‘REMTV’ Box Set

REM MTV live box set remtv

Earlier this year, former R.E.M. guitarist Mike Mills promised that the band wouldn’t simply be emptying the vaults of all their unreleased material, but after a couple of massive reissues, the band has returned again with news of another box set. This one, however, won’t draw on just the Athens janglers’ unreleased stocks of audio, but will team with MTV to track the entirety of their career through a 6-DVD set.

Titled REMTV, the package features a whole host of award show performances, their two MTV Unplugged sessions, a VH1 Storytellers set, and a new documentary, among other live music moments. Disc one compiles those Unplugged performances and outtakes. The second disc has the Storytellers performance and award show songs. Discs three through five hold live shows from 1995 to 2008, including 99 tracks (only half of which are repeats.) The sixth and final disc includes a new documentary called “R.E.M. by MTV,” which tracks the band’s and the TV station’s simultaneous growth from both of their origins in 1981.

You can preorder the extravagant set now, and doing so will get you a mono recording of a 2003 show in Milan, Italy that won’t be included in the box.
