Regina Spektor Charms Brooklyn

Whether describing her sweetest downfall or reminiscing about an overdose, Regina Spektor thoroughly charmed the crowd during last night’s sold-out show at the Warsaw. Clad in a black ’50s-style dress, a silver sequined top, and her trademark red lipstick, the anti-folk starlet declared “I’m home” before launching into “Summer in the City.” Although her far-reaching pipes were fit for a concert hall, Spektor’s playful delivery on tracks like “Fidelity,” “That Time,” and “Hotel Song” inspired howling and eager clap-alongs from fans. The singer/pianist provided her own backup during the first half of the show, occasionally picking up a seafoam guitar and whacking a chair with a stick or tapping on her microphone to add extra percussion. Her supporting band entered the stage after a spirited version of “On the Radio,” filling out her already rafter-shaking sound. By the end of the night, Spektor had easily found a place in the audience’s ha haha-heart. GINNY YANG / PHOTOS BY ALLIE LEEPSON
