Queens of the Stone Age’s New Album Also Has Elton John, Dave Grohl Reveals

Elton John, Dave Grohl

Queens of the Stone Age’s upcoming album, previously described by guest drummer Dave Grohl as “ridiculous,” just became a little bit more so. And once again, Grohl, who has been everywhere recently, had something to do with it.

Elton John played on the record, the “Rocket Man” piano man confirmed to Grohl in an interview last night, part of Grohl’s week-long stint guest-hosting E! show Chelsea Lately. “I love that band so much,” John said of Queens of the Stone Age. As reported guests on that record, he joins not only Grohl, but also Trent Reznor and Scissor Sisters’ Jake Shears, along with Songs for the Deaf-era QOTSA members Mark Lanegan and Nick Oliveri. (There’s a reason it’s one of SPIN’s 50 Albums You Gotta Hear in 2013.)

As John poined out, QOTSA actually isn’t such a stretch for him. His previous guest stints include records by Alice in Chains, Killers, and even Eminem.

John is performing at Sunday’s Grammy Awards show. Tonight Grohl will be interviewing Tenacious D, Grammy nominees for Best Comedy Album.
