  • Queens of the Stone Age leader Josh Homme says the band will head back into the studio to work on a new record after their June performance at Glastonbury, and the group is aiming to finish it up before the end of the year. “We have enough songs,” says Homme. “We’re at a weird moment where we really don’t feel like we have anything to prove.” [BBC’s Zane Lowe]

  • Pete Doherty has been sentenced to six months in jail after pleading guilty to possession of cocaine. The Babyshambles frontman was arrested last year while police were investigating the death of British heiress Robyn Whitehead; officials discovered incriminating footage of Doherty smoking out of a crack pipe with Whitehead days before her death.   • Jay-Z has inked a development deal with cable network Adult Swim. Details of the partnership have not been revealed but the rapper is expected to be working on an original animated series. Adult Swim has teamed up with musicians on original programming in the past: OutKast‘s André 3000 created the cartoon show Class of 3000 back in 2006. [AdWeek]

  • Drake has revealed via his Twitter that he is working on new material with mysterious electro-R&B act The Weeknd. The group have also announced that they are readying two new mixtapes for release: Thursdays will drop this summer, while Echoes of Silence will be out this fall.

  • Watch Broken Social Scene deliver a raucous cover of Modest Mouse‘s “The World at Large.” The Canadian collective filmed the tune for The Voice Project charity, which raises awareness for women of Uganda.

  • TV on the Radio, Thurston Moore, Explosions in the Sky, Battles, Ghostland Observatory, and more will headline this year’s Capitol Hill Block Party in Seattle, WA.
