Pusha T could hardly have picked a better time — or a more complementary visual — to make the case for “Suicide,” a stark, menacing highlight from the Clipse half’s strong 2013 album My Name Is My Name that features a guest verse from longtime brother-in-arms Ab-Liva. “You caught steam off headlines and cosigns,” Pusha sneers, and hey, what Lil Wayne-endorsed rapper with a song called “Headlines” should happen to be all over Saturday Night Live this weekend but Drake. Coincidence? Surely not. The slithery Pharrell production finds an expert counterpart in Nathaniel Brown’s video, a darkly lit, mostly black-and-white clip full of strobe-like flashes, digital effects, and (mostly obscured) nude bodies. The Virginia MC has disavowed his since-deleted Facebook post that had recently seemed to confirm a new Clipse album, but for now he’s back to serving Young Money beef, and you know from the man’s coke rhymes he’s a hell of a cook. The Nothing Was the Same mastermind‘s best move might be to pretend he never saw this — respond on live television, and Pusha will have a reason for his evil-Cheshire smirk here.
