Pure X's 'Thousand Year Old Child' Gives the Performance of a Lifetime

Video for 'Crawling Up the Stairs' track seethes with ruin

Colin Stutz

On Pure X's peaceful Crawling Up the Stairs entry, "Thousand Year Old Child," an old soul serenades his lover as she walks out the door. The Austin band's new video puts a face to that narrator, a grizzed visage that looks to have been around for as long as the title claims. Our hero wakes and contentedly walks the land of his country home, stopping to check on his goat and feed his chickens. Soon, the video's journey cleans him up and drops him in the city, a sense of ruin and finality looming ahead.
