Hear Pony Time’s Buddy Holly-Informed Noise-Popper ‘Because I Care’

Pony Time / Photo by Emily Denton

“Girl, I just like you,” Luke Beetham declares through distortion, cheekily channeling Buddy Holly, between Kinks-krunching verses on “Because I Care.” Seattle native Beetham, on vocals and guitar, and Iowa transplant Stacy Peck, on drums, are Pony Time, and what makes this snot-nosed garage-pop song tick is that you aren’t sure whether Beetham really does care. You aren’t sure whether he’s sure, either. But the endearingly tuneful noise, reminiscent of bands from farther down the West Coast, especially Thee Oh Sees, bodes well for the rest of the duo’s debut album, Go Find Your Own, due out on February 19 via Per Se Records.
